Everyone has a role in preventing the misuse of prescription medication. If you are prescribed a medication or you are a caregiver responsible forthe prescription medication of someone else, there are ways you can help reduce the risk of medication misuse, theft, or accidential ingestion.
- Safely dispose of unused/expired medications.
- Securely store medications out of sight and out of reach of children/teens.
- Never share prescription medicines with others.
Unused or expired medications can collect in cabinets, drawers, and elsewhere in our homes. Regularly inventory your medications. Collect medications that are expired, left over/unused, or no longer needed.

If medical sharps are part of a treatment regime, a sharps container should be used for safe disposal.
Securely Store
All medications (prescription and over the counter) should be stored out of sight and only accessible to the prescription holder or caregivers. Medication should be inventoried and checked regularly. Medication Lock Boxes are a safe storage option for homes with:
